With Dale working hard on the ARC Fleet Infantry I have taken on the job of painting the Protolene and all the vehicles for the Kyushu Bay Board.

Steve had offered to give me a hand so popped round on monday to help out with the airbrushing.

As usual all the miniatures where cleaned, assembled and primed black ready for painting.

I always attach the miniatures to wax spatulas in units, with same poses next to each other for ease of painting.

Over the black undercoat Steve sprayed a base coat of XF-23 Tamiya Light Blue (Vallejo Model colour is Light Green Blue).

This was repeated "several times" to complete the production run. Note the cut down, Downed Walker that will be going on the board at some point.

Having given them a few minutes to dry it was on with the ink. In this case Citadel Asurman Blue. I have previously used Windsor & Newton Colbolt blue ink but found that was leeching through the next layer of paint too much.

No need to be to neat with this just slap it on and use water to thin out any areas that are looking to heavy with ink.

Before we knew it we had this batch sprayed and inked.

At the same time as spraying the Protolene, Steve also spray the base coat on another 3 heavy tanks. The base coat is the same colour used for the Protolene, and will eventually produce a paint job in the same artic scheme as used in the online store.

Steve is using a Tamiya turnable whilst airbrushing so that he does not have to handle the miniatures whilst spraying. This avoids getting you hands covered in a paint and stop finger print patterns emerging through handling the model.

Thats all for now. I'll be back on with these over the weekend, blocking out the Protolene Armour, and masking up the tanks ready for there next coat of paint.

Totally agree Darth,

I am very tempted to get some of these, but I think I'll wait to see what sort of vehicles they might get.

Probably going to "borrow" the colour scheme for my next "battalion" of infantry though. Also going to try and paint the shoulder pads a different colour for each unit.

So having been busier than i could have possibly imagined I have not had much time to dedicate to this blog as the day to day running of CMG has left me somewhat rushed.

This friday was all about the Marroks for me and with 12 on the go and time lacking it has become about quick practical painting that will look nice on the Kyushu Bay board.

Club member Steve had offered to airbrush on some WWII German style patches using some stencils he had after which I went in for abit of simple detailing with the black. The entire models was then drybrushed up with some pale blue and then washed with a thinned blue ink. All that remains now are the weapons and basing.

Club member Scott has jumped on board with the painting too and has blitzed 9 of the 18 Ayame Battlesuits that will be used in the Salute Games.

These have joined the basing que and will be mounted on 40mmx40mm bases.

Across from me club member John was working on his ARC Fleet, finishing off some Heavy Drop Troopers and building a Combat Walker and Heavy Tank. Its a pleasing sight, seeing people enjoy what the Critical Mass Team has created, it is one of the things that makes it worth while to me.
